About the apprenticeship programme

JGC Engineering & Technical Services Ltd offers a 3-year Apprenticeship Programme in Fabrication & Welding. Each year, we take on approximately four apprentices, providing hands-on experience, training, and a pathway to a skilled career in the engineering industry.

We collaborate closely with UHI North West Hebrides, identifying promising candidates from SVQ & NC Fabrication & Welding SCQF5 course or a similar level engineering course. We monitor students’ progress throughout the academic year and conduct interviews and work placements with those demonstrating strong performance and commitment.

If you're interested in joining our apprenticeship programme, please complete an Expression of Interest Form. This lets us know you're keen to be considered and allows us to follow your development when we visit UHI North West Hebrides.

How to Apply:

Pathway 1

  • Fill in an Expression of Interest Form (available on the JGC website)
  • Apply to the college for a SVQ & NC Fabrication & Welding SCQF5 course (more details on UHI North West Hebrides website)
  • If successful for the SVQ course you will have the opportunity to attend a 2 week placement with JGC as part of the selection process
  • JGC will also visit UHI North West Hebrides throughout the year
  • Interviews will be held at the end of the course

Pathway 2

  • If you already hold a SVQ 2 in a relevant engineering course you can apply directly to JGC
  • Complete and return an Expression of Interest

Progression from School
If you have completed one of the access courses you could apply for the full-time SVQ & NC Fabrication & Welding SCQF 5 course or a similar level engineering course to progress.

For younger pupils, the school link courses with UHI North West Hebrides engineering department are a very useful start to your career path in engineering and hives you great experience.
